TECLA I TAMBÚ (2025)
Where piano meets rhythm: a return to the roots of Aruban musical identity.
With Tecla i Tambú, Kyle Winklaar places rhythm at the center of his artistic practice. The project explores the deep connection between piano (“tecla”) and traditional tambú, one of Aruba’s most vital cultural expressions.
In this trio setting, the piano expands beyond harmony into a rhythmic and percussive role, interacting directly with tambú and bass. The result is a powerful, grounded sound where groove, improvisation, and cultural memory merge into a living musical dialogue.
Musicians
Kyle Winklaar — grand piano
Lidrick Solognier — tambú & percussion
Nathaniel Klumperbeek — electric bass
Through this ensemble, Tecla i Tambú creates an organic balance between structure and instinct, tradition and innovation.
Purpose
The project was initiated to reconnect with the roots of Aruban music, placing rhythm and cultural identity at the forefront, while exploring how tambú can evolve within contemporary jazz and global performance contexts.
